Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)
Precise & gentle: Focused
shockwave therapy at our private practice
Gentle pulses – powerful results. Focused shockwave therapy offers an effective treatment option for acute and chronic pain in the musculoskeletal system, for example in the shoulder. In our practice, we apply shockwave therapy with particular care and sensitivity to ensure that the treatment is as comfortable as possible whilst remaining effective.
Contrary to what is often feared, shockwave treatment is not simply a painful stimulus – thanks to our targeted and finely tuned approach, many patients experience the therapy as an intense but well-tolerated impulse.
What is a focused shock wave?
In focused shockwave therapy, high-energy mechanical waves are directed specifically into deeper layers of tissue. This stimulates blood flow, accelerates the healing of tendons, muscles and bones, and reduces inflammation. The method is often confused with ultrasound – in fact, however, it does not involve high-frequency sound, but rather targeted pressure waves that are more comparable to a sonar device.
Typical areas of application:
- Chronic tendon irritation (e.g. tennis elbow, Achilles tendonitis)
- Heel spurs and plantar fasciitis
- Calcific tendinitis
- Muscle stiffness and myofascial pain syndromes
- Delayed bone healing following fractures (pseudoarthrosis)
Our unique approach
In our practice, the focus is on the individual – and this is particularly evident in our personalised approach to shockwave therapy.
A gentle, carefully administered treatment
With a steady hand, we apply the shock waves precisely to the affected areas. As we do so, we closely monitor your body’s response and adjust the treatment accordingly. Many patients do not find the treatment painful, but rather describe it as an intense pulse or a sensation of pressure.
Dynamic adjustment of intensity
Everyone experiences shock waves differently – which is why we continuously adjust the intensity throughout the treatment. We tailor our approach to your individual sensations and the specific therapeutic requirements, ensuring you always achieve the best possible balance between effectiveness and tolerability.
Number of shots selected individually
Depending on the size of the treatment area and the intensity of the pain, we determine the number of shock wave pulses delivered on a case-by-case basis. This enables us to provide targeted and intensive treatment without placing unnecessary strain on the tissue.
Precise control of the depth of action
Using state-of-the-art technology, we can precisely adjust the penetration depth of the shock waves – enabling us to treat deep-seated structures or superficial pain points with precision, depending on individual needs.

What can you expect during the treatment?
- 1. Detailed initial assessment
Before each treatment, we carefully analyse your symptoms to determine the ideal treatment area and the optimal intensity.
- 2. Targeted application of shock waves
During treatment, we apply the shock waves to the affected areas using gentle, flowing movements. We constantly adjust the intensity and pulse frequency to suit your individual comfort level.
- 3. Aftercare and further treatment recommendations
The shockwave continues to have an effect beyond the treatment itself – a noticeable improvement often occurs in the days following the session. If necessary, we combine shockwave therapy with other treatment approaches to achieve a lasting effect.
Why choose shockwave
therapy at our practice?
- A sensitive and precise approach rather than a standardised treatment
- Individual adjustment of intensity and number of pulses
- Targeted therapy for deep-seated pain points
- Long-term pain relief without medication or surgery
